During the last three years, a cat, called “Librarian Director” by Tsinghua University students, had kept a great company for the students studying there in the old Tsinghua Library. Last morning, it was found dead in front of the library door for some unknown reason.
The news spread among students, who started to upload the photos of the cat to Weibo in memory of its companionship. The official Weibo account of Tsinghua library also sends a note, saying “The cat is dead. Mourning.”
The cat was adopted by a real librarian in the summer of 2010, and from then on, it became part of everyone’s life there. In their memory, the cat was quite special and independent. In the morning, the cat would walk around the library, just like patrolling, so the name “Librarian Director” gradually became recognized by all. The cat has the privilege to sleep anywhere it likes in the library. When cold, it often spent a whole afternoon on students’ books or notebooks, or even in their bags—perfectly at home. Once it slept on the seat of someone’s electric bike, the owner just waited for an hour! For all the students, the cat enlivened the cold and hard library.
Finally, the cat was buried under a maidenhair tree in front of the library. Someone placed a photo of it there; someone brought flowers and food it liked, for now, everyone’s only wish is may the cat librarian director rest in peace!
